Our founder, Walter Savage Senior, searching for the "key" to Jaytown's history.

Jaytown Historical Society was formed in 1977, by a group of fanatics who wanted to keep the place as it had always been. Their main interests were Drains and The Mahogany Ship.

A museum was opened in the Old Jaytown Theatre in 1979 when a new cinema complex was erected further along Roo Street. (Actually 50 miles further along Roo Street.) The museum contains historic objects, documents, photographs, maps, toy trains, stuffed koalas and hundreds of members who are well past their use by dates.

Walter Savage keeps his collection of pet taipans in the foyer, so most members enter by the back stairs. Visitors are welcome to use the foyer entrance.

Jaytown Museum opens from 3pm to 3.15pm on the second Sunday after Epiphany, so long as there is a full moon.
